Before you post your comment below, I invite you to consider the definition of the word, "Inspiration." Pronunciation: /ɪnspɪˈreɪʃ(ə)n/ Definition of inspiration in English:noun1[MASS NOUN] The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative:Helen had one of her flashes of inspirationthe Malvern Hills have provided inspiration for many artists MORE EXAMPLE SENTENCESSYNONYMS 1.1The quality of being inspired:a rare moment of inspiration in an otherwise dull display MORE EXAMPLE SENTENCES 1.2[COUNT NOUN] A person or thing that inspires:he is an inspiration to everyone MORE EXAMPLE SENTENCESSYNONYMS 1.3Divine influence, especially that supposed to have led to the writing of the Bible. EXAMPLE SENTENCES 2A sudden brilliant or timely idea:then I had an inspiration MORE EXAMPLE SENTENCESSYNONYMS 3[MASS NOUN] The drawing in of breath; inhalation:crackling sounds are heard in the stethoscope on inspiration It is that last definition that caught my attention. It is the one most closely aligned with the word's origin: OriginMiddle English enspire, from Old French inspirer, from Latin inspirare 'breathe or blow into' fromin- 'into' + spirare 'breathe'. The word was originally used of a divine or supernatural being, in the sense 'impart a truth or idea to someone'. The original form of water marbling, Suminigashi, involves the use of wind, -either the breath from the mouth or by waving a fan - across the surface of the water to create flowing designs. In the Mayu Silk Art booth at the Huntington Beach Pier, we often find that the ocean breeze will play with our carefully combed or drawn designs, altering them in ways that usually produce delight on the part of the artist. It is, I guess, the way that nature - or perhaps something more Divine - inspires our art to become something greater, more mysterious, more wonderful. So, now to the question. Jane LaFazio was a guest at a Mayu Silk Art Experience party at her friend's home in San Diego, CA this past summer. We enjoyed meeting Jane and all of the ladies, many of whom are artists of one kind or another. Everyone had a great time making scarves on the patio, in spite of the summer heat, and Jane (who we later found out is quite well-known as an artist and teacher) wrote about the experience on her blog. Jane shared some great pictures with captions highlighting the process. You can view Jane's blog by clicking HERE We posted a link to the blog entry here on this page, and on our Facebook page, but I wanted to give an update and a bigger show of our appreciation for Jane's contribution. You see, after Jane's blog was posted, we received numerous inquiries and Facebook "likes" from her readers in many parts of the country. As a result of her story, we booked several Mayu Silk Art parties and workshops in California and Arizona, and plans are in the works for us to travel to Chicago, Minneapolis, and possibly Texas! Needless to say, we think Jane is the best thing since Acrylic paint, and we are very grateful for her artistic friendship and her beautiful spirit. She is truly extraordinary! Please do take time to read her blog post, and take a look at her website at http://janelafazio.com Glennwood House Scarf Making Day13 September · On September 13th, our team had the opportunity to make scarves with 25 of the residents at Glennwood House, an amazing home for independent adults with special needs. See the photos in the slide show below. The scarves - which as you can see came out great - will be auctioned off at the upcoming gala event benefitting Glennwood. Funding for this activity was made possible by the incomparable Danielle Wilson of Sotheby's International Realty, who is a fantastic lady with a big heart and a great laugh. We owe her a debt of gratitude for her dedication and support. Glennwood House of Laguna Beach is a GORGEOUS 42 room facility that also has a Dining Hall, gym, Sensory Garden, media room, Art Studio and Game area for residents to enjoy. The facility opened in the Summer of 2013 and is geographically close to wonderful Laguna restaurants, down town shopping, walking distance to beach access, the park and recreation sites! In chatting with the residents, we learned that they come from all over California, and all of them seemed thrilled to call Glennwood their home. We very much look forward to spending more time with this group in the future, For more info about Glennwood House, go to http://glennwoodhousing.org/the-glennwood-house/ or visit their FB page at https://www.facebook.com/GlennwoodHouseOfLagunaBeach?fref=ts For more info about Danielle Wilson, go to http://www.sothebysrealty.com/eng/associate/180-a-1280-4022719/danielle-wilson See the scarves on display at the Glennwood Gala at The Ranch in Laguna Beach by clicking HERE. "Gel-Git" is a Turkish phrase meaning "back and forth," and is the name of the basic chevron-like water marbling design formed by pulling the rake, comb or stylus back and forth through the paint.
We hope that this phrase will also describe our relationship with you and the many other folks with whom we have enjoyed sharing this beautiful art form. Please feel free to contact us at any time with your photos, ideas, questions, event inquiries, or custom orders.
