The Glorious Gel-Git Gazette!

This page is where we get to tell you
what a great job you are doing,
and how it has helped us
- and others -
do a better job ourselves.
Together, we make a pretty darn good team.

If you have ever felt the magic of the Mayu Silk Art Experience, I hope you will read this

Perhaps you have felt it - that magical, serendipitous sense that draws us into the art of painting on water, and that wondrous moment when we see our design jump to the silk, to be saved forever. We leave with not only a silk scarf, but a memory of joy and a feeling of accomplishment.

This Mayu Silk Art Experience connects our team with people in a unique way, because as people come into our little corner of the world and hear our stories and dabble in the very cool art of water marbling, they also invite us into their hearts, homes and businesses.  They have an emotional connection to our brand because of their experiences with it, so our actions as a company must live up to the stories we tell and the art that we share. We know what it is to struggle, to feel pain or fear, or to just have a rotten day. But we cannot always know what someone else may be dealing with on the day that our paths cross. That is why we take seriously our obligation to make sure that everyone receives the same one-to-one attention as they ask questions and work their designs. Likewise, we have ourselves been touched by this art and by the caring attention of others, and we know the importance of paying it forward.

As Phil and I look to the end of our first year in business, and the beginning of the next, we are perched on the edge of what we believe is the next big step for Mayu Silk Art - a partnership with corporations and individuals who want to bring this experience to others through what we are affectionately calling the "Gel-git Initiative."*

This collaborative effort of donors, volunteers, and corporate and non-profit agencies will enable us to bring the art of water marbling to Children's Hospitals, cancer patients, victims of trauma and abuse, and others with a special need for TLC. Please call us at (949)424-3458 if you would like to be a part of this grass roots initiative.

At Mayu Silk Art, we believe that our commitment to community must extend beyond the joyous environs of our paint boxes, marbling trays and rinse buckets to the world in which we all live. It is a beautiful world, with an abundant need for care and compassion, love, hope and healing.  This shared Mayu Silk Art Experience is an opportunity for all of us to connect with and inspire others.  The example we set as a company of just a few is nothing compared to the impact we can have when we inspire the many others who cross our path every day to take action themselves, and to make a difference.

We are grateful to all who have cheered us on, waited patiently for their turn to make a scarf, run out to get us a cup of coffee on a busy cold day, shared their photos with us, and in so many other ways helped to support this venture called Mayu Silk Art.

It is our daily hope that the world tomorrow will be a different, better one, because we were here today.

* Gel-git is Turkish for "back and forth," and is the name of the most basic combed pattern in water marbling technique, and the foundation off many more complex designs. Go to our photos page to see examples.

"Gel-Git" is a Turkish phrase meaning "back and forth," and is the name of the basic chevron-like water marbling design formed by pulling the rake, comb or stylus back and forth through the paint.

We hope that this phrase will also describe our relationship with you and the many other folks with whom we have enjoyed sharing this beautiful art form.

Please feel free to contact us at any time with your photos, ideas, questions, event inquiries, or custom orders.
